History was made when the world's first privately built spaceship, SpaceShip One, left the Civilian Flight Test Center at Mojave, California, attached to the belly of the White Knight. After circling to 47,000 feet, SpaceShip One was released and pilot Mike Melvill fired its rocket, boosting it to over 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the surface of the Earth, qualifying it as the world's first privately built spaceship. El inglés Paul Bonhomme (Equipo Matador) volvió a instalarse en el liderato de las Red Bull Air Race World Series tras su brillante victoria en la penúltima carrera de la temporada, que se celebró en San Diego (EE.UU.) ante 50.000 espectadores. Bonhomme relegó al americano Mike Mangold (Equipo Cobra) al segundo puesto en la clasificación provisional, cuando el héroe local cayó en cuartos de final. El español, Alejandro Maclean se enfrentó en Cuartos de Final al americano Kirby Chambliss y tuvo que conformarse con el octavo puesto (sexto en la general con 13 puntos).
Los mejores pilotos de carreras surcarán los cielos de San Diego (EE.UU.) los próximos días 21 y 22 de septiembre en lo que será la penúltima prueba de las Series Mundiales Red Bull Air Race 2007. Trece pilotos lucharán por conseguir puntos para la clasificación en un circuito de slalom situado a pocos metros sobre el agua, alcanzando velocidades de 400 km/h y soportando fuerzas de hasta 10 G. Entre ellos, el español Alejandro Maclean, actualmente sexto en la general.

QinetiQ’s Zephyr High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has exceeded the official world record time for the longest duration unmanned flight with a 54 hour flight achieved during trials at the US Military's White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The flight trials were funded through the Ministry of Defence (MOD) research programme.

For its 10th edition, the Swiss stage of the aerobatic World Cup took off with a new label, the "Vertigo Swiss Riviera". Since last Wednesday, 42 paragliders solo, 9 teams of paragliding synchro and 6 hanggliders have been competing in Villeneuve. This year, for the first time, the competition also had to crown the Swiss champions of these 3 disciplines. Second at the World Championship, the French Antoine Montant has shown that he’s still in best shape! Second is Hernan Pitocco, one of the leading pilot since years, in front of another young French, Cyril Planton. Johnny Nilssen won the hanggliding competition. In synchro paragliding, the Austrian duet of Bernd Hornboeck and Alexander Meschuh were the bests. The first Swiss champion of the aerobatic history is Hervé Cerrutti, another longtime pilot of the World Cup circuit.
